The Minister of Defense
Reggie White · NFL Hall of Famer, ordained minister
Reggie White was one of the most feared defensive players in NFL history, earning the nickname "the Minister of Defense" — a name that reflected who he actually was off the field as much as his play on it. White was an ordained evangelical minister throughout his playing career with the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers, known for studying Scripture with teammates and openly discipling younger players. One teammate later recalled the impact: "I saw so many Christian guys on that team — Reggie White, being the guy who comes right to mind — who'd study the Bible and study Jesus." White remained committed to both his ministry and his sport until his death in 2004, leaving a legacy that shaped a generation of NFL players who followed him into public faith.
