From a self-described "staunch atheist" to a prayer that changed everything

Kirk Cameron grew up in a home where church was never part of life and, by his own account, was a committed atheist through his teenage years as a rising Hollywood star. At 17, after a co-star invited him to church and he heard a message about God's holiness, he found himself alone in his car, confronted with the thought that he wasn't ready to face eternity. He prayed what he later called "probably the clumsiest prayer ever prayed": asking God, if He was real, to show Himself and forgive the things he had done wrong. That imperfect prayer marked the start of a faith he has publicly lived out — and defended, at real cost to his career — ever since.
