When You Don't Know What Comes Next
October 2, 2026
There are seasons in life when you know you need to move forward, but you cannot see where the road is leading.
You may be wondering, “What does God want me to do?” or “How can I trust God when I don't know what will happen?”
Not knowing the future can make the heart anxious. We often want God to show us the entire path before we take the first step.
But faith does not always mean knowing where the road ends. Sometimes, faith means trusting the One who already sees the way.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
— Proverbs 3:5
This verse does not tell us that we will always understand God's plans. Instead, it reminds us that our understanding is limited, while God sees what we cannot.
You may not know what tomorrow will bring. You may be waiting for an answer, making an important decision, or walking through a season that feels uncertain.
You can still pray.
You can still seek wisdom.
You can still take the next right step.
And you can still trust God.
Sometimes God gives us enough light for the next step rather than enough light to see the entire journey. That does not mean He has abandoned us. It means we are learning to walk by faith.
If you are uncertain about your future today, bring that uncertainty to God. You do not have to pretend that you have everything figured out. Tell Him what you fear. Ask Him for wisdom. Ask Him for patience. Then continue faithfully with the light you have been given.
Prayer:
Lord, I do not always know what comes next, and sometimes that uncertainty makes me afraid. Help me trust You when I cannot see the whole path. Give me wisdom when I must make decisions, patience when I must wait, and courage to take the next step in faith. Teach me not to depend only on my own understanding, but to place my future in Your hands. Amen.
Today's thought:
You may not see the whole road ahead, but you can trust the God who sees it all.
